Art galleries throughout downtown host receptions and art openings on the first Saturday of every month. Most galleries serve free wine and other refreshments. Two free shuttles provide transportation among the galleries from 6 pm to 10 pm. See the shuttle map and gallery listing here. The Arts Company

Sat, Dec 6. 215 5th Avenue North. 254-2040. 6 – 9 pm. Free. Holiday open house and birthday celebration. 12th Annual Holiday Arts Market and new exhibit on display. “Wood, Canvas and Clay” features works by four artists that are new to the Arts Company. The holiday arts market features affordable gifts such as art books, new photography, paintings, sculpture, art-related merchandise and more. Plus, two continued exhibits on display through December 19: “90 Years in the American West” and “The Wave of My Eyes.”

BelArt Studio

Estel Gallery

Sat, Dec 6. 115 Rosa Parks Blvd. 251-8997. 6 – 9 pm. Free. “Branch Out: Artists Interpret the Holidays” features works from local and national artists. Gifts for sale for as little as $20 include ornaments by Mr. Hooper. On display through December 20.

The Rymer Gallery

The Showroom

Sat, Dec 6. 77 Arcade. 347-306-1859. 6 – 9 pm. Free. “In a Nutshell: Under a Grand” features a retrospective of all gallery artists since the gallery opened in May. All work is under $1,000. Purchases made on opening night will be discounted by $50. On display through December 31.

Tennessee Art League

Sat, Dec 6. 808 Broadway. 6 – 9 pm. Free. Opening reception for three exhibits: Monthly Members’ Show, “Works by Mary Ellen Sligh,” and “Living in an Abstract” which features works by Edie Maney and Jan Batts. Exhibits on display through December 27.

Tinney Contemporary

Sat, Dec 6. 237 5th Avenue North. 255-7816. 6 – 9 pm. Free. This month’s exhibit features works by the Lost Boys of Sudan who make Nashville their home. Art includes handcrafted ceramic masks, sculptures, pottery, and paintings. A portion of all sales will benefit the Lost Boys Foundation. Exhibit on display through December 27.

Twist Art Gallery

artEMBRACE along 5th Avenue North

Sat, Dec 6. 219 5th Avenue North and 500 Church Street. 6 – 9 pm. Free. Enjoy art by students in YMCA’s artEMBRACE program, the afterschool arts enrichment component of YMCA Fun Company. The students are from Bordeaux Elementary, Creswell Magnet, Smyrna Primary, and John Coleman Elementary. Works are displayed in two empty storefronts along 5th Avenue. Free art classes for children will be available from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at the 219 5th Ave N building. At 6 pm a West African Drumming performance will occur on 5th Avenue between Church Street and the Arcade.

Art-Luck
