Hey guys! I know all of you have heard the saying about digging a hole to China – and as someone who has done extensive research on the subject, I will be debunking that for you. First off, if you were to dig a hole straight down from the United States, you would land somewhere in Argentina rather than China. In addition, if you were to somehow start digging a hole, this is assuming you have some fancy digging machine that can displace an Earth sized amount of dirt somewhere. Say the tunnel started to form, due to the rotation of the Earth, you would be bouncing around all over the place. Assuming you were able to dig a hole to the core (and didn’t melt in the process), you would be pulled down by gravity to the center of the Earth. Once you hit the center of the Earth, you will be in zero gravity but going over 18000 mph. After passing through that core, you would be pulled back in towards the core and decelerate at the opposite rate from the first half. This would continue to happen, so you would spend the rest of your life oscillating back and forth like a human yo-yo at the center of the Earth.
