Sukkot<\/span><\/h3>\n

Following the High Holidays of Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur comes the celebration of Sukkot (literally meaning huts). Relating back to the times of the ancient Israelites wandering in the desert, this holiday is a time of great joy! \u00a0Around campus we have a number of these sukkot, temporary huts, erected for the week-long celebration.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Events for Sukkot have included decorating each sukkah, Pizza in the Hut, Smoothies in the Sukkah, and lunch and learn discussions throughout the week.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Lulav and Etrog<\/span><\/h3>\n

The agricultural undertones of the holiday of Sukkot are demonstrated by taking four\u00a0symbolic <\/a>species:<\/span><\/h3>\n

    Lulav <\/em>(\u05dc\u05d5\u05dc\u05d1) \u2013 a ripe, green, closed frond\u00a0from a date palm tree<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n

    Hadass\u00a0<\/em>(\u05d4\u05d3\u05e1) \u2013 boughs with leaves from the myrtle\u00a0tree<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n

    Aravah <\/em>(\u05e2\u05e8\u05d1\u05d4) \u2013 branches with leaves from the willow\u00a0tree<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n

    Etrog <\/em>(\u05d0\u05ea\u05e8\u05d5\u05d2) \u2013 the fruit of a citron\u00a0tree<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
