On Friday November 6th, Vanderbilt Hillel is partnered up with Vanderbilt African Student UnionVanderbilt Black Student Alliance -BSADores For Israel, and Vanderbilt Multicultural Leadership Council and The David Project to bring Benjamin Pogrund to campus. Pogrund was a Jewish reporter in Apartheid South Africa. He was extremely well respected by Nelson Mandela and was “an esteemed player in the South African apartheid struggle who withstood government security investigations, underwent political trials because of his reports on abusive prison conditions, and imprisonment for refusing to disclose a source of information.”

Pogrund discussed his South African Apartheid resistance experiences and relationship with Nelson Mandela for a majority of his presentation, and what it is like to now live in Israel.  We were lucky to hear his insights and experiences living in two controversial areas, and the differences between the two lands.
