Each semester, VSVS sends out between 300 and 400 student volunteers to bring hands-on, engaging science lessons to the 5-8th grade students in (primarily) public schools in Nashville, TN.<\/p>\n

VSVS partners a team of 2-4 volunteers with a classroom teacher in Nashville. Each team visits the same classroom 4 times in a semester and teaches a different lesson each time. Lessons are designed to introduce or reinforce a concept from the Tennessee Academic Standards for Science (TASS) for that grade.<\/p>\n

Training is provided at the beginning of each semester for all volunteers by the student board. VSVS provides all lesson content, materials, transportation for teams via Lyft Pass, and a t-shirt to wear during their volunteering sessions for free.<\/p>\n

Teachers and VU students that wish to participate in this program must apply for\u00a0every<\/em> semester they wish to participate in. Applications for the VSVS Local Classroom program are always open during the first 2 weeks of classes at VU each semester<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
