Senators bring student concerns to VSG, vote on resolutions and key organizational decisions, serve on a VSG committee, and advocate for the best interests of the undergraduate student body.<\/p>\n What are Committees?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n VSG’s Committees work directly on the issues that shape student life, and members are chosen based on their application. Committee members collaborate with fellow students and university administrators to gather student input, develop initiatives, and create meaningful improvements across campus. Our nine committees include Academic Affairs, Campus Culture and Spirit, Campus Partnerships, Campus Services, Diversity and Inclusion, Philanthropy, Public Relations, Public Safety and Transportation, and Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention (RSVP).<\/p>\n Can I run for Senate and apply for a Committee?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Yes! If you win your Senate seat, you will be assigned to a committee based on your committee application (each senator will serve on one committee). First-year students may not run for an academic college seat unless there is no interest from upperclassmen.<\/p>\n 1. Choose your seat<\/strong> 2. Collect signatures (petition)<\/strong> Petitions are completed through a Microsoft Form<\/strong> provided by the Elections Commission beginning on August 31st and ending on\u00a0September 9 at 11:59 p.m<\/strong>. (form will be linked on our website and Linktree). Only students within your constituency may sign your petition.<\/p>\n 3. Submit your platform & campaign information<\/strong> 4. Campaign & Vote!<\/strong> Before September 10 at 8:00 a.m.<\/strong>, candidates may collect petition signatures and create campaign materials, but may not ask for votes or distribute campaign materials<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Once campaigning begins, you can promote your platform, distribute campaign materials, and ask students for their votes. Candidates may not engage in negative campaigning or voter intimidation. The use of University-maintained listservs, mass emails to student addresses, or university-maintained GroupMe groups is prohibited.<\/p>\n Candidates have a $100 campaign spending limit<\/strong> and must follow all Elections Commission rules (see rules packet linked below).<\/p>\n Voting takes place on Anchorlink<\/strong>. The voting link will be shared through VSG email and social media when polls open.<\/p>\n Make sure you read the Senate Election Rules Packet<\/a> before you begin the campaign process to ensure you understand all guidelines in place for the election process. How to Run<\/h3>\n
\nDecide whether you want to represent your class, academic college, or the transfer student community. You must be a member of the constituency you are seeking to represent and may only run for one seat.<\/p>\n
\nTo appear on the ballot, candidates must collect signatures from undergraduate students within the constituency they are seeking to represent:<\/p>\n\n
\nSubmit your platform of up to 300 words explaining why voters should choose you, candidate photo, and campaign information\u00a0on AnchorLink<\/strong> by September 9 at 11:59 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n
