VPB\u2019s The VenUe presents: Comedy Gold! As if we weren\u2019t hilarious enough already, we\u2019re bringing you some of the funniest people we know, featuring Tongue \u2018N\u2019 Cheek, Emma Willmann<\/a>, and Pete Lee<\/a>! Those last two have appeared on The Tonight Show and The Late Show, so you know they\u2019re legit.<\/span><\/p>\n

I grew up in a tiny town in Maine and always felt weird and different.\u00a0 I am not sure if it was because I was dyslexic, gay,\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>and overweight \u2013 but for whatever reason, I felt like an outsider. \u00a0I never watched comedy growing up, but was interested in entertainment.\u00a0 It was an escape to a bigger world\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

CHAPTER ONE: BOBBY BROWN FRAMED ME FOR THEFT<\/span>In high-school, I spent a summer interning at a hip \u2013 hop recording studio in Boston.\u00a0 I got the internship by pretending to call an employee back, once I got through I said,\u00a0I\u2019LL DO ANYTHING to work for you!!!!\u201d
\n<\/i><\/span>He must have been disappointed when a little boyish lesbian waddled in..<\/span>One time, Bobby Brown stole a DVD from the lounge. It was rented from Blockbuster. \u00a0\u00a0I was such a little country bumpkin, I went to Blockbuster and said \u201cHey, we didn\u2019t lose the DVD, Bobby Brown took it! So can we not be accountable?\u201d\u00a0<\/span>For some reason\u2026they thought that was a lie.<\/span><\/p>\n

CHAPTER TWO: THE GRANNY GRIP DEBACLE
\n<\/span>I went to college.\u00a0 Loved it, did great. \u00a0That sounded very Trump of me, I am just putting it in there because I did poorly in high-school. I was so amped after graduation,\u201canything is possible!\u201d I decided to take a day job doing whatever, and attempt to become an inventor (like my great grandfather \u2013 Joseph William, it worked for him, me\u2026NOT SO MUCH).
\n<\/span>Just for a visual, my day job was recruiting high end construction executives. \u00a0Is that a thing? \u00a0I am still not sure.
\n<\/span>Once, someone told me they tried to invent THE MORANGE, \u00a0a bigger orange<\/i>.\u00a0 That person was my manager (at the time).\u00a0 That means the same person who believed the MORANGE is a good idea was also like, \u201cEmma Willmann is going to be BIG.\u201d \u00a0I am the morange comedian.
\n<\/span>My invention was called STOP THE SCUFF, it was a clear plastic material that prevents the pants from scuffing. \u00a0 The one I pursued was called \u201cThe Granny Grip.\u201d \u00a0It was a plastic glove old woman could ware when they are getting in the tub to help them GRIP it and not slip. \u00a0\u201cDon\u2019t want your granny to slip? Invest in the granny grip!\u201d
\n<\/span>After \u201cThe Granny Grip,\u201d went up in flames, I was depressed.\u00a0 I had spent my whole life going \u201cI will do this to get this, and this to get this!\u201d not having a focus made me feel like I had no meaning! Thats very privileged but, it is what it is.
\n<\/span>After Granny Grip, \u00a0I went to a party and saw a girl doing stand-up.\u00a0 The next week I signed up for a comedy class. I started in Boston, going to open mics.\u00a0 I even entered a contest where I was heckled for \u201clooking weird.\u201d \u00a0I remember walking around that night and crying.\u00a0 I vowed then and there if I kept with comedy, I would win that competition.\u00a0 And I did, the next year.\u00a0 I only say that to say\u2026HAH.<\/span><\/p>\n

PHASE THREE: NOTHING IS EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING IS SOMETHING.
\n<\/span>I moved to Boston to go to graduate school.\u00a0 Really I went for comedy, but going to school and working as a lab monitor at the school made for a cushy transition.\u00a0 I snuck out and went to open mics, and skipped any and all social events to \u201ctry and make it in showbiz!\u201d
\n<\/span>When I graduated \u00a0I was so fucking tired \u2013 my parents begged me to try something else.\u00a0 And, I did.\u00a0 I moved back to Boston, stopped comedy, and had my friend who\u2019s an actress pretend to be my old boss.\u00a0 Within five days I had a job selling educational travel to teachers in Ohio.
\n<\/span>Not to sound like a psychopath, but, I felt like I wasn\u2019t manifesting my spiritual destiny.
\n<\/span>I missed entertainment, and luckily got very fired.\u00a0 I have been back trying to make it as hard as I can.\u00a0 I am giving everything here to try and be really great, and facilitate people having fun, learning, and whatever the fuck to make life a little easier (for myself included).
\n<\/span>If you are interested in credits, these are all things that happened in the past six month.\u00a0 My goal is to scale my problems and double everything every year.\u00a0 For example, if one year the problem is \u201cI did not get into Just for Laughs Comedy Festival,\u201d the next year the problem needs to be \u201cI got in but wish I said this differently in my set.\u201d
\n<\/span>For me, it\u2019s never about what I GET (that\u2019s my job) it\u2019s about what I turn it into.\u00a0 If I get a project and do not turn it into other opportunities, it was a failure. \u00a0\u00a0Nothing is everything but everything is something.<\/span><\/p>\n

PHASE FOUR: I DO ACTUALLY HAVE SOME CREDITS
\n<\/span>I was on tour with Louie CK after he saw me at The Comedy Cellar, Judd Apatow cast me in Crashing after seeing me live, I did a guest spot on NPR\u2019s Prairie Home Companion, have a show on MTV2 and am the Friday co-host of the popular morning show Wake Up with Taylor! On SiriusXM 109 Starz.\u00a0 I also have my own monthly show The Check Spot on SiriusXM Raw Dog Radio.<\/span><\/p>\n

P.S WHY I MIGHT LOOK FAMILIAR?
\n<\/span>Despite all this stuff, the reason I might look familiar is because I WAS IN AN AD for a stove. Thats the truth.

\"\"Pete Lee might be the nicest person in New York City, but that\u2019s because it\u2019s impossible to sound aggressive with a Wisconsin accent. Pete was raised in Janesville, WI by divorced parents and a 19-inch television, which is probably why he pursued a career in entertainment.<\/span>

\nIn 2005, Pete flew to New York to make his television debut on\u00a0Comedy Central\u2019s Premium Blend<\/strong>. That same night, he met his future wife, and she made him move to Manhattan. Soon after moving to NYC, he was selected to perform at the\u00a0Just for Laughs Comedy Festival<\/strong>\u00a0in Montreal, where he was voted a standout performer. In 2008 Pete made his network television debut performing on\u00a0NBC\u2019s Last Comic Standing<\/strong>\u00a0finishing as a semi-finalist. That same year, he made his television acting debut on the\u00a0CBS Soap Opera As The World Turns,\u00a0<\/strong>lasting two episodes! At the end of 2008 he then shot his own\u00a0Comedy Central half Hour Special<\/strong>, which earned him a \u201ccult\u201d following at comedy clubs, and the opportunity to perform over the next four years at 500 colleges across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2010 Pete began producing and editing his own shows for the Internet which led to getting his own web show on\u00a0MSN.com<\/strong>\u00a0called\u00a0New York Minute:30<\/strong>. His web shows attracted the attention of television talent scouts and in 2012 he was hired to be a writer and cast member on\u00a0FUSE TV\u2019s Video on Trial<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0NFL Network\u2019s Top 10\u2019s<\/strong>. In 2013, Pete was hired as a cast member on\u00a0VH1\u2019s Best Week Ever<\/strong>, which debuted in January.<\/span><\/p>\n
