History

Since 1998, Vanderbilt Off-Broadway has been the only completely student-run Vanderbilt performing arts group that produces full-length musicals. We encourage students to be involved in every aspect of our productions, from cast to tech, crew to orchestra. The curtain rises on our main stage production each January, with our newer second show hitting the stage in April.  Our presence on Vanderbilt’s campus and in the Nashville performing arts scene is continually growing.

The Spring Show was a newer addition to the Vanderbilt Off-Broadway repertoire, starting in 2011.  This is traditionally a smaller show, with as few as only two cast members (The Last Five Years, for example) that gives students a chance to work on a more intimate show in the second semester.

In 2013, Vanderbilt Off-Broadway launched the New Works Initiative, in which VOB partners with up-and-coming writers and composers to incubate new musicals. Vanderbilt Off-Broadway is proud of both advancing the art of musical theatre and providing additional opportunities for theatrical talent on Vanderbilt’s campus.

Vanderbilt Off-Broadway has always encouraged people of all levels of experience in the world of performing arts to audition for and participate in our shows each semester. Each year, we welcome new performers, musicians, crew members, and more into the “VOB family” that will be a source of love, encouragement, and support throughout their time at Vanderbilt and beyond.
