The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
April 7, 8, and 9 • Sarratt Cinema
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee tells the story of An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box! A riotous ride, complete with audience participation, VOB’s 2016-2017 Second Show was a delightful den of comedic genius. The small cast and unit set made this the perfect option of VOB and Sarratt Cinema.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee was a hit across campus, selling out for its opening performance! Audiences loved the acting, directing, improvised comedy, and vocal strength. The audience was particularly impressed with how VOB was able to tackle this tricky Broadway musical with the perfect balance of storytelling, audience interaction, and vocal performance.
