(Click <a href=\"https:\/\/news.vanderbilt.edu\/2016\/08\/26\/zeppos-shares-vision-for-inclusive-excellence-at-vanderbilt-during-fall-faculty-assembly\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> for more info). This translates to about $15,000,000-$20,000,000 per year.\u00a0 Many offices and programs around campus are putting together proposals suggesting uses for these funds.\u00a0 Dean Wallace has given the Graduate Student Council (GSC) the opportunity to submit proposals as well. \u00a0We have shared this opportunity with all of you.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Here are the proposals that your fellow students submitted.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Click on proposal title to see a final copy of the proposal:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>VU Joint Venture<\/b>\u00a0<b>Research Initiative<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A program to diversify research funding sources and educational opportunities for students. <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.vanderbilt.edu\/t2-studentorg\/studentorg-prd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2017\/03\/VU_Joint_Venture_Research_Initiative.pdf\">link<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>VU Democracy School<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Extracurricular weekend classes for high school students, taught by grad students, which better equip high schoolers to address issues in the Social Sciences and Humanities. <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.vanderbilt.edu\/t2-studentorg\/studentorg-prd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2017\/03\/Vanderbilt-Unversity-Democracy-School-Proposal-Version-III-2-28-17.pdf\">link<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Adult Community Science Outreach\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span class=\"s3\">\u2013 <\/span><span class=\"s1\">A science outreach program that targets adults, not children, that serves to educate our voting public and enhance science communication skills among students. <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.vanderbilt.edu\/t2-studentorg\/studentorg-prd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2017\/03\/ScienceHour-Proposal_DYF_Final.pdf\">link<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Project Mentor<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A program that supplies basic training in various leadership skills to current PIs\/Mentors as well as grad students and postdocs. <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.vanderbilt.edu\/t2-studentorg\/studentorg-prd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2017\/03\/GREE-Proposal-Project-Mentor.pdf\">link<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Daycare Supplements<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A fund to subsidize daycare costs for Vanderbilt Grad students with children to alleviate financial stress and foster a welcoming environment for all types of students. <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.vanderbilt.edu\/t2-studentorg\/studentorg-prd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2017\/03\/Proposal_daycareSupplements_graduateStudents_final.pdf\">link<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Incentivized Milestones<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 An award system that uses positive reinforcement, in the form of small scholarships and grants, to promote timely progress to graduation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Mental Wellness Initiative<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A short course that equips students mentally and physically to adapt to the demands and stressors of graduate school. <a class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Made@Vanderbilt \u2013 a Device Fabrication and Testing Facility<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A new facility that specializes in device fabrication and testing that will accelerate research in this field. <a class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Everyone Can Present: Popular Research Presentation Platform <\/b><\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u2013 A research competition where students post short presentations online so they are accessible to the public.\u00a0\u00a0Winners are chosen partially on the popularity of their online video. <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.vanderbilt.edu\/t2-studentorg\/studentorg-prd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2017\/03\/Proposal-Zhiyu_Wan.pdf\">link<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Interdisciplinary Data Science Fellowship<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s3\">\u2013 <\/span><span class=\"s1\">A fellowship program where a team of graduate students learn data science skills and work together to create a deliverable product to the Vanderbilt community. <a
