11/14/2017: US-China Relation: A Personal Perspective

Morton Holbrook III has had an impressive career of diplomatic service that includes postings in New York, Washington, Tokyo, Manila, Paris, and Beijing. He served on the legal staff of Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and began his 30-year career in US-Chinese relations in 1979 when he was among the first to work in the American embassy in Beijing. In 1990, Holbrook became US Consul General in Shenyang, was assigned to Beijing from 1996 to 1999 and contributed to bilateral relations in a different way by serving on the faculty at United International College in Zhuhai, where he taught courses on US-China relations, international political economy, and the Chinese legal system. Morton graduated from Vanderbilt in 1964, and he later earned his J.D. at the University of Chicago Law School. He has presented US-China Relations in his personal perspective, bringing insightful discussion with the audience.

 

11/02/2017: The Future of US-China Relations in the New American Adiministration

A political risks analyst and China expert, Chucheng specializes in political risk and business intelligence research. Chucheng helps corporate clients and institutional investors understand and forge responses to political risks in emerging markets, where politics has a fundamental impact on business operations and investment interests. He also helps clients understand how politics in China operates and how to use knowledge of Chinese politics to guide investment and business operation.

Chucheng holds an MA in Political Science from Columbia University. He received a BA in Political Science and History from University of California, Berkeley. He is a former researcher at the Eurasia Group and currently works as an associate in Blackpeak in Hong Kong, an international investigative research and risk advisory firm dedicated to uncovering critical risk-related information for clients worldwide.

 

04/19/2017: Air Pollution in Beijing

Ms. Li is the Deputy Chief of International Cooperation Division in Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau. With enormous experience in researching the environmental protection in China, she has analyzed the status quo of air pollution in Beijing and achieved solutions to Vanderbilt.

 

03/01/2017: “Guanxi” in Chinese Business

Professor Friedman, a professor at Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management, is an expert on negotiation, conflict resolution, Chinese management, and diversity. He currently serves on the editorial board of Negotiation and Conflict Management Research. Prof. Friedman has served as Chairs for the Academy of Management and the International Association for Conflict Management. Professor Friedman brings a variety of business-relevant insights to his fields of study and the classroom.
