Spring Break 2014 was a challenging, productive, and rewarding week of training on the water! The team practiced hard all week, rowing twice a day on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Georgia. Each squad saw improvement with every workout, which is the mark of an exceptional training trip. We greatly appreciated the help of our guest coaches (Jon Miller, Joey Krakowiak, and Sam Fraifeld) and the insight they brought to the water every day. We were also extremely excited to finally row in our brand new fours! A big thanks to all our donors who made that purchase possible!
Another highlight, aside from all the rowers rowing, was the annual Coxswain Row! The stakes were high as four of our coxswains reversed roles and let freshman Connor Donahue boss them around. Check out our Facebook page for video highlights! Another Spring Break Tradition– the Head of the Chocolate Bunny was held on Friday afternoon and it was quite the event! In this annual head race of about 7000 meters, the squads compete against each other, with a staggered start, to see who will cross the finish line first. Congrats to the Novice Women’s 8+ who took home the 2014 Chocolate Bunny!
The week wrapped up with a scrimmage against Loyola Marymount and Michigan, a competitive finish to a tiring but fun-filled trip. We can’t wait to bring all our hard work into spring racing!
